Private accident insurance is particularly useful if you have no statutory accident protection or are exposed to an increased risk of accidents in your free time. This is often the case for the self-employed, stay-at-home parents, children and amateur athletes.
The cost of private accident insurance varies greatly and depends on whether the insurance company puts you in a low risk group (people with commercial or administrative jobs) or a high risk group (craftsmen, hobby/extreme sportsmen) and of course on the amount you want to insure. Prices are usually between €8-30 per month.
The statutory accident insurance only covers accidents at work and on the way to and from work. If you are traveling privately or are at home, you are not entitled to benefits from the statutory accident insurance. In this case, the only option is private accident insurance. This also protects you around the clock and worldwide.
Private accident insurance protects you from the financial consequences of permanent physical damage caused by an accident. Usually a one-time payment is agreed upon. But a monthly payment is also possible. You may need this, for example, to modify your living space to make it suitable for disabled persons. Or to receive better medical services that are not covered by public health insurance.
